Happy New Year All… And why do we want to forget about the old year and start fresh with the new year? I have no idea, but I know this is the time to look forward and make 2011 the best year ever. I promise not to tell you about my recent problems and I don’t really want to hear yours either!
OK, let’s get started with a few new years resolutions and/or goals.
- You must write them down on paper
- You must look at them everyday
- They must be reasonable
- They must be important to you

The long Thanksgiving weekend brings mixed blessings. Stockton has turkey and skunk leftovers on its plate.
On the one hand, it’s time to celebrate immeasurable blessings. Life. Freedom. Food, clothing and a roof over our heads. The Beatles for sale on iTunes.
Most people have a family and friends and a shot at happiness. Here’s (clink!) to that.
On the other hand, City Hall deflated Stocktonians last week with news that hard times are not going away. On the contrary. Times will get harder.
City Hall projects an $18.4 million general fund deficit next year and a $26.2 million gap in 2012-13.
We’re digging an epic hole. It would seem time to change the word for this slump from recession – by definition temporary, often a year – to, regionally at least, depression. [Read More]

It has been reported that the recession ended last June 2009 … and there is no chance now of a double dip recession. Most of these reports came out in the media late September 2010 with only about a month left before we go to vote on election day November 2, 2010. It has also been reported that this was the worst recession since the great depression of the 1930′s. President Obama said, “the economy is stable, but the recession is very real.”
As for myself, a real estate broker working for many years in Stockton, I am working 24/7 and earning about 1/3 or less of what I did in the 1990′s through 2006. I really do not think the worst is behind us yet! And, what about jobs…where are they? How many people do you know that might still face foreclosure and lose their home?
