Sunday PGA Golf!

Rickie Fowler

My favorite PGA rookie, Rickie Fowler is T-3 and only 2 strokes out of the lead on the final day of the “Waste Management Phoenix Open” at Scottsdale Ariz.

With a brand new PGA Tour Card and a hard hitting go-for-the-hole attitude, Rickie is ready to burn up the 2010 Tour.

Rickie has a proven knack for “firsts”. After all, which other professional golfer has a background not in competitive golf, but rather motocross racing? Fortunately for fans of the new golf generation, Rickie traded in his dirt bike for a golf cart at the age of 14. And he hasn’t looked back since. Read more about Rickie…

PGA Tour!

The month of January is over and we have already seen four events on the PGA tour. Last weeks winner at the Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines was Ben Crane by one stroke, but I was pulling for the rookie Rickie Fowler who is almost sure bet to win this year.

No disrespect to Troy Merritt or Alex Prugh, but Fowler has that certain look about him, that swagger that usually accompanies tremendous talent.

Fowler may even win a PGA TOUR event (or two) before ballots are cast this fall. Playing in just his 11th PGA TOUR career event Sunday, the 21-year-old contended for the second time, settling for a fifth-place finish in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. It was the third top-10 of his brief TOUR career.

Fowler was just a shot behind eventual champion Ben Crane until his youthfulness showed with a short-sided double bogey at the 17th hole. From the middle of the fairway, it took him three shots to get on the green, then he missed a 6-footer.

Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer in the world. Most serious golfers enjoy watching him play the game and don’t really give a damn about his personal life. Come back soon…Tiger!

What Could Have Been!

clipart-golfTom Watson said “it could have been one hell of a story”…If you are into golf and over 50 years old, the Open was one of the most thrilling Sundays in a long time. Even though Tom Watson did not win the tournament, he proved and reminded many of us that age is just a number. At age 59 he missed by one stroke being the oldest professional golfer to win a major by more than 10 years. Many of us were pulling for him and living his dream!

His grace in defeat should be remembered!

My Favorite Area Golf Course

Lockeford Springs Lockeford Springs Golf Course, is a public, par 72, 18 hole course located in the heart of the Lodi wine country. It is a links-style course with uneven lies, undulating greens, and hidden water hazards. My favorite hole and the signature hole is the 18th; a 514-yard, par 5 dogleg fairway with a water hazard on the left, an L-shaped green, and a canal on the right. Not a difficult hole to make birdie, but you better be very careful or you might end up with a double boggy.

The course and facility is equal or better than many private courses, and the staff is very relaxed and friendly!

On My Mind…

The PGA tour is back in full swing this week with the Sony Open in Hawaii. Oahu is home to a wide range of golf courses, including Waialae Country Club, host of the Sony Open. Last week Geoff Ogilvy was the winner of the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Kapalua, Hawaii. I would love to be playing in Maui right now!
