One of my favorite golf tournaments; The U.S. Open comes to Pebble Beach next month June 17-20, 2010. The famous golf course has been lengthened to 7040 yards, the graduated rough will be grown taller on the shorter holes and the speed of the tiny greens will be increased for the tournament.

Also, Tiger Woods is scheduled to play and most likely be the favorite to add another major tournament to his list of wins. Tiger won at Pebble Beach by 15 strokes in 2000. Tiger recently signed up for the British Open at St. Andrews, another course which Tiger is very familiar.

Pebble Beach Golf Links is approximately a 3 hour drive from Stockton, California and the 17 mile drive of the Monterey Peninsula is wonderful.

Rickie Fowler

My favorite PGA rookie, Rickie Fowler is T-3 and only 2 strokes out of the lead on the final day of the “Waste Management Phoenix Open” at Scottsdale Ariz.

With a brand new PGA Tour Card and a hard hitting go-for-the-hole attitude, Rickie is ready to burn up the 2010 Tour. 

Rickie has a proven knack for “firsts”. After all, which other professional golfer has a background not in competitive golf, but rather motocross racing? The month of January is over and we have already seen four events on the PGA tour. Last weeks winner at the Farmer’s Insurance Open at Torrey Pines was Ben Crane by one stroke, but I was pulling for the rookie Rickie Fowler who is almost sure bet to win this year. 

No disrespect to Troy Merritt or Alex Prugh, but Fowler has that certain look about him, that swagger that usually accompanies tremendous talent.

Fowler may even win a PGA TOUR event (or two) before ballots are cast this fall. Playing in just his 11th PGA TOUR career event Sunday, the 21-year-old contended for the second time, settling for a fifth-place finish in the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. It was the third top-10 of his brief TOUR career.

Fowler was just a shot behind eventual champion Ben Crane until his youthfulness showed with a short-sided double bogey at the 17th hole. From the middle of the fairway, it took him three shots to get on the green, then he missed a 6-footer.
